The Bail Out event has been designed to raise awareness of the complex realities many young people face, including trauma, disadvantage, and pathways that can lead to youth detention.
in Australia, it costs $3,635 per day to keep a young person in detention, compared to $9.78 a day to provide a young person with a Volunteer Mentor.

To support this cause, We're getting locked up, and we need your help to raise my bail! All funds will go towards helping young people find life-changing connections and build a brighter future.
Here's How It Works:
Experience Jail Life
Upon arrival, Inmates will be stripped of their possessions, given a prison uniform, fingerprinted, photographed, and fed prison gruel in the exercise yard.
Fundraising Goals:
Supermax Inmate: Raise $5000 for release
Cellblock Inmate: Raise $1000 for release
Cellblock Inmate: Raise $1000 for release
This unique experience will help bring attention to the urgent need for mentorship programs, highlighting the stark contrast between the high costs of detention and the relatively low costs of preventive mentoring.

Growing up I experienced poverty and homelessness. My life could have very easily been so different to the life I have now. Sometimes all it takes is for one person to have a positive impact, to believe in you and cheer you on, mistakes and all. Big Brothers Big Sisters have mentors that are ready to step up and be that person for young people who need it. I know who those people were for me, and I can never thank them enough for just being a safe space and showing me what life has to offer, what family looks like.
I am no stranger to the trauma that is perpetuated by incarceration, I have vivid memories of visiting my dad during one of his many stints on the inside. I now know a lot about my dad and his life, and I can see the path that led him there. It can be hard to reconcile the happy joker that I knew, to the choices he made that landed him in prison, with the hard worker he was as a teen that worked to help his family. What would his life had been like if he had a mentor to help? Some questions won't ever have answers, but I do think he would get a kick out of my little stint in Gundagai Jail!
