One bad decision… maybe just the wrong crowd…and perhaps just one moment without guidance…
That’s sometimes all it takes for a young person’s life to completely change direction.
And honestly, that breaks my heart.
I truly believe most troubled kids are not born “bad.”
They’re hurt
Lost
Disconnected
Unseen
Trying to survive emotionally in a world that never taught them how.
Some are growing up without any support.
Without safety of a Home
Without someone believing in them.
Without a mentor to guide them
And eventually…
society punishes the behaviour instead of healing the pain underneath it.
Here’s the part that shocked me most:
In Australia, it costs $3,635 PER DAY to keep ONE young person in detention.
BUT for just $9.78 a day… a young child can have access to a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia.
Think about that.
For less than the cost of a coffee… YOU :) could help change the direction of someone’s entire life here in our own backyard.
That’s why I’ve agreed to get “locked up” at the famous Pentridge Prison for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bail Out Challenge this June.
And yes… they make it real.
They’ll strip us of our belongings, Fingerprint us.
Put us in prison uniforms (check out my photos from last year)
Lock us behind bars.
But unlike many young people, at the end of the night I get to walk out and head Home.
Some kids don’t.
Some are trapped in cycles they never chose.
Trauma.
Violence.
Addiction.
Neglect.
Isolation.
Mental health struggles.
No role models.
No hope.
And I keep thinking… What if someone simply showed up for them earlier?
One person saying:
“I see you. I believe in you. You matter.”
That can literally alter someone’s future.
Many of you know this cause is deeply personal to me.
I care deeply about young people and deeply about mental health having had my own troubles and journey through it.
So today I’m asking my friends, clients, business associates and community…
Help me raise bail!!
Not for me
For THEM
For the kid who just needs someone in their corner before the world gives up on them.
Every donation, no matter how small; helps Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia provide life-changing mentoring programs to vulnerable young Australians.
